New safety functions thanks to networking
In every region of the world the density of road traffic is constantly increasing, leading to a growing need for safety and protection systems. Our systems are already helping to avoid crashes and to save lives. Yet our intention is to further improve even today's high safety standards. The starting point for this is to network vehicle systems previously acting independently from each other, such as ESC, airbag control and ACC, within the framework of CAPS - Combined Active & Passive Safety.
For our new CAPS safety system we network active and passive safety systems with predictive driver assistance systems. This networking makes possible multiple uses of sensor signals. This is the basis for new functions which further increase the safety of vehicle occupants and other road users. Standardized interfaces guarantee smooth data transfer from high-performance individual systems and permit simple adaptation to the various electronics architectures of different vehicle manufacturers.
