ABS Antilock Braking System

Particularly on slippery roads, even a light application of the brakes can lead to a wheel lock-up situation in which the vehicle will not react to the driver’s steering movements.

With ABS, the driver maintains control of the vehicle so that it can be maneuvered around an obstruction, even when the driver has slammed on the brakes in panic.

Wheel Speed Sensors (WSS) monitor each wheel continuously. As soon as lock-up is detected at a wheel, ABS is activated to temporarily reduce the braking pressure at the appropriate wheel to prevent lock-up.

ABS repeats this monitoring and control cycle in rapid succession for each wheel. This form of electronic wheel-slip control ensures optimum stopping distances while at the same time maintaining full steerability and stability.
