CAPS functions today and tomorrow
Accident research is an important starting point for the development of new CAPS functions: We analyze traffic and crash data from all over the world. Typical crash scenarios form the basis for determining market requirements and are incorporated into functions and concepts for addressing such potentially dangerous situations.

The modular nature of CAPS provides plenty of freedom for the development of new functions. In addition to the examples described here, we also develop specific functions for our customers as required. A further benefit of modularity: the CAPS system is scalable and flexible and can be introduced into all vehicle segments.

Navigation systems extend the possibilities of CAPS

The data from the digital road map and from the corresponding position of the vehicle, both available from the navigation system, can provide valuable information for improved safety in traffic situations. This data can be networked with other sensor systems as an additional source of information and can thus be used as the basis for new safety functions within the framework of CAPS. They can also extend the navigation system into an assistance system and provide warnings of threats ahead such as dangerous crossroads, tight curves or school zone speed limits.

Yet another future topic is vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Information about the current traffic situation is transferred directly from vehicle to vehicle or to the infrastructure to make driving with safety and foresight possible. The navigation system can thus warn the driver without delay of traffic jams such as road works or bottlenecks not yet visible around upcoming curves. Weather-related warnings such as fog or black ice can also be transmitted.
