For manifold-injection gasoline engines, state-of-the-art developments are represented by the Motronic engine-
management system together with the electronic throttle control (ETC/EGAS). The basic idea behind ETC is that
the wide range of different functions that must be performed by a modern engine-management system should be centrally controlled according to their priority. Applying engine torque as the principal reference variable, the system has no trouble in setting the correct air-fuel mixture as required at any given moment.
