Occupant protection systems
Within a blink of an eye our sensors and processing systems must
provide powerful performance in the service of occupant safety. In many
cases our electronic circuits must measure, analyze and respond in only
five thousandths of a second.
Depending on the situation, the electronic controls trigger
the safety
mechanisms: Seat-belt tighteners and multi-stage airbags after a
frontal collision, and airbags deployed from the side and in the head
area in the event of a lateral collision.
Systematic occupant protection:
each function is triggered at the right time
The Airbag 9 occupant-protection system (AB9) consists
of an evaluation and igniter unit, and peripheral pressure
and acceleration sensors. Its modular construction and its
scalability enable it to fulfil individual occupant-protection requirements. The addition of system components providing detailed information about the occupants and the presence
of a child seat permits intelligent triggering conceptions with twin- or multiple-stage gas generators.
The system can also deactivate the passenger airbag in order not to endanger occupants. This also saves repair costs caused by unnecessary airbag triggering. In addition, the Airbag9 system is already prepared for future requirements such as pedestrian protection, for example.
