Pedestrian protection

We have solutions which allow the vehicle to fulfil the legal requirements for pedestrian protection and which can be implemented consistent with the ideas of the vehicle manu-
facturers. We are developing one solution for pedestrian protection that has almost reached series-production maturity. This solution triggers an actuation system which raises the vehicle's engine hood, for instance. Acceleration sensors in the vehicle's bumpers enable the system to detect a collision with an object. Thanks to intelligent algorithms, a reliable distinction between types of object can be made. The actuation system is only triggered if the system recognizes a collision with a pedestrian. The system is integrated in the airbag control unit and makes use of a version of the Bosch acceleration sensors already well established on the market.

In future we will also be using anticipatory sensors such
as ultrasonic sensors or even video sensors for pedestrian protection in order to further improve the system.
