Electronic throttle control (ETC/EGAS)

Electronic throttle control (ETC/EGAS)
The ETC/EGAS system: 1 Accelerator-pedal module, 2 Engine-management ECU, 3 Throttle device

Function
The ETC electronic throttle control (also known as drive-by-wire), comprises throttle device, accelerator-pedal module, and ECU. It adapts the engine torque to the driver's acce-lerator-pedal input and to the operating parameters of en-gine and gearbox. Thanks to ETC, such safety systems as ESP® are able to reduce torque rapidly and precisely, with-out causing any increases in emissions.

EGAS
ETC/EGAS components: 1 Accelerator-pedal module, 2 Throttle device,
3 Engine-management ECU

Customer benefits
  • More sophisticated driving
  • Increases the level of active safety
  • Drive-by-wire: Throttle cable is redundant
  • Integrated cruise control
  • Provides for compliance with the limits of the more severe emissions legislations scheduled for the future
